Pennsylvania’s University of Valley Forge announced it will close after the fall term ends Aug. 21, following decades of attempts to find strategic partnerships and persistent financial pressure. The Board of Trustees said enrollment had fallen by half since 2007 and that fewer than 500 full-time students were enrolled in the latest report. The closure escalates compliance concerns for small colleges: the Middle States Commission on Higher Education threatened to strip accreditation by Sept. 1 unless the institution could show it remained in financial compliance. The board said a sustainable path forward did not materialize in time. Teach-out arrangements are now in motion. The university named Eastern University, Messiah University, and Southeastern University as teach-out partners to support students, preserve academic records, and manage ongoing financial assets—an immediate operational challenge for governance, student transitions, and compliance.
