The Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) has elected its 2026–2027 Board of Directors, naming eight newly elected members and a new slate of officers for terms beginning July 1, 2026. The board includes provosts, chancellors, and accreditation liaisons from institutions across the United States. Among the newly elected members are leaders from the University of the Virgin Islands, Oklahoma State Regents, Baruch College (CUNY), University of South Carolina Upstate, Saint Louis University, University of San Diego, Lone Star College-Online, and California State University San Marcos. CHEA also named Catherine Wehlburg as chair and David Schmidt as vice chair. CHEA’s board composition matters for higher education accreditation oversight and institutional quality assurance work, particularly as policy scrutiny and AI-era assessment challenges continue to raise expectations for evidence-based academic quality.
