The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges announced it will rebrand beginning in September, changing its name to the Commission on Colleges and Universities and updating its logo. The move is designed to reflect the accreditor’s national role following the U.S. Department of Education’s 2019 elimination of regional boundaries. SACSCOC’s leadership framed the rebrand as a shift from accountability-only framing toward “accountability to impact.” For institutions, the announcement is operationally significant mainly for branding, communications, and long-term coordination expectations with accreditor leadership and standards messaging. Accreditation name changes can also affect published compliance materials and internal crosswalks between institutional policy language and external accreditor requirements.
