The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) announced Thursday that it will rebrand starting in September as the Commission on Colleges and Universities. The accreditor said the name change is intended to better reflect its national role after the U.S. Department of Education removed regional boundaries in 2019. SACSCOC will also change its logo, adding a torch and a shield. Commission leadership framed the shift as aligning the organization with higher education’s evolving accountability landscape and its stated vision to partner with member institutions as they move “from accountability to impact.” The change matters for compliance planning because institutions manage accreditation communications, policy timelines, and messaging across accreditor renewals, substantive change, and reporting cycles. Any rebrand-related materials typically require updates to institutional websites and accreditor acknowledgments.
