Georgia’s direct-admissions program is spreading, with a growing number of states adopting “reverse application” models that use student performance data to send enrollment offers without students applying. In Georgia Match, more than 130,000 high school seniors receive letters in October listing colleges and universities that are saving spots for them in 2027, using 11th-grade academic data to generate provisional admissions across most of the state’s public colleges, universities, and technical institutions. Policy analysts say the approach aims to reduce logistical and financial barriers that can suppress enrollment, while also encouraging consideration of in-state options. The Education Commission of the States highlighted the model with a Frank Newman Award for State Innovation. The expansion is particularly relevant to higher education leaders managing enrollment volatility and aligning K-12 coursework with postsecondary pathways.
