A new survey forecast suggests more than 40 million U.S. adults intend to pursue education or postsecondary training within two years, far exceeding current enrollment levels. The report, co-sponsored by CAEL and built from data collected by CollegeAPP using predictive analytics, projects that 65 million adults may plan to enroll, including 41.7 million aged 25 to 64. Higher education leaders should note the distinction between “intent” and “registration,” as experts caution that stated willingness may not convert into enrollment without targeted outreach. Still, the findings highlight a massive pool of recruitable adults that institutions often under-serve because many recruitment systems focus on traditional high-school cohorts. The development matters for admissions strategy and student success planning because adult persistence, scheduling flexibility, and credit/workforce alignment will determine whether this intent translates into measurable enrollment gains.
