Anthropic restored global access to its Fable 5 model after the U.S. government rolled back export controls that had restricted the company’s frontier AI access for about two weeks. The change also brought Mythos 5 back for the relevant user groups. In announcing the rollback, Anthropic said the U.S. government had coordinated to ensure alignment with U.S. interests. U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick confirmed the government had worked with Anthropic during the restriction period. Anthropic said it will scale up government collaboration and pursue a shared industry framework for assessing cybersecurity vulnerabilities in frontier models—an approach aimed at reducing future “disablement” cycles tied to export-control decisions.
