Universities are moving from pilot to program-scale use of immersive learning: UNC Greensboro deployed an AI- and VR-powered immersive environment in its business school after a $1 million grant, designing experiences to build professional skills rather than simply showcase hardware. University presidents from Southern New Hampshire, Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts and San Jose State are likewise championing AI to streamline administrative tasks, personalize advising and expand access. Campus leaders are treating AI as both instructional tool and capacity lever—automating transcript evaluation, streamlining onboarding and freeing staff for targeted student support. But adoption raises governance questions about procurement, privacy, and pedagogy. Provosts and CIOs should prioritize vendor risk assessments, faculty-led pilots aligned to measurable student-outcome metrics, and clear privacy agreements to govern AI use across enrollment, advising and instruction.
