Meta agreed to fund expanded gas-fired power capacity for its Hyperion AI data center campus in rural Louisiana, increasing the project beyond its initial plan and placing new load growth squarely on utility grids. The company’s deal with Entergy, announced March 27, covers seven new power plants—on top of three approved previously—bringing total Hyperion-linked capacity to 7.5 gigawatts across 10 gas-fired plants. Meta said it would pay for the plants to avoid shifting costs to ratepayers, and Entergy characterized the agreements as limiting taxpayer exposure. Regulatory approvals are still required from the Louisiana Public Utility Commission, but the scope is large: the planned 10 plants represent more than a 30% increase to Louisiana’s grid capacity, even before accounting for additional renewable capacity and storage Entergy also expected to support under the broader arrangements.
