Texas A&M University System is rolling out an AI-driven student engagement platform aimed at Pell-eligible students, with the program’s core focus on integrating fragmented institutional data rather than deploying a standalone chatbot. The 12-campus system launched a chatbot collaboration with Mainstay that directs students to financial aid, registration, counseling, and other supports designed to keep learners on track. System leaders said building an all-in-one resource required cross-unit coordination to address “siloed knowledge and information” that made it hard for students to find timely help—particularly around emergency aid. An early stated win includes preserving contact with stopped-out students to extend outreach beyond active enrollment. Nine campuses are slated to integrate the system-wide platform by fall 2026, with leaders indicating the same architecture could support additional high-need interventions such as mental health referrals.
