Texas A&M University System leaders said they are scaling a new AI-driven student engagement platform designed to personalize support for Pell Grant-eligible students, while directing students to financial aid, course registration, counseling, and other resources. The rollout depends on cross-unit collaboration because the system’s existing data infrastructure is fragmented across 12 campuses. The chatbot platform, built in collaboration with Mainstay, uses internal guidance to create an “all-in-one” pathway for students who otherwise struggle to locate key services. Leaders said the work has already surfaced gaps, including difficulties applying for emergency aid, and enabled outreach beyond active enrollment. By fall 2026, nine campuses are scheduled to integrate the system-wide chatbot. System leaders also said they see the model extending to mental health support and other high-need interventions, highlighting how university AI initiatives are increasingly framed as an operations and data integration project—not just a tool deployment.
