Mark and Mary Stevens donated $200 million to the University of Southern California to advance AI research, and the university will rename its computing school as the USC Mark and Mary Stevens School of Computing and Artificial Intelligence. USC plans to introduce an AI bachelor’s program this fall. The gift also adds to the Stevens family’s existing giving—$92 million previously—along with multiple USC centers already named for the donors. USC President Beong-Soo Kim said the investment will expand USC’s ability to leverage interdisciplinary strengths and train AI talent. The announcement is another signal that universities are turning major philanthropy into AI-focused academic capacity—covering staffing, new degree paths, and likely research infrastructure at a time when public demand for workforce-aligned credentials is accelerating.
