SoftBank plans to invest as much as €75 billion to build 5 gigawatts of AI data-center capacity in France, with an initial €45 billion phase targeting 3.1 gigawatts in Hauts-de-France by 2031. The company said its sites will include Dunkirk, Bosquel and Bouchain, alongside future expansion across France. SoftBank linked the announcement to direct engagement between French President Emmanuel Macron and SoftBank founder Masayoshi Son, citing the president’s personal commitment to attracting investment. Schneider Electric is also set to partner on a Dunkirk site aimed at AI infrastructure and robotics manufacturing. The push arrives as SoftBank expands other large compute projects, including a separate Ohio data-center initiative and its broader Stargate partnership work with OpenAI and Oracle. The French investment is expected to be formally announced during the Choose France Summit, positioning France as an emerging AI infrastructure hub for Europe.
