The U.S. approved limited redeployment of Anthropic’s Mythos 5 AI model after the company addressed Trump administration concerns about national-security risks and guardrail circumvention. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick wrote in a letter to Anthropic, seen by Bloomberg News, that the company’s work with the government enabled progress and that the model could be released to “certain trusted partners.” The clearance follows a two-week standoff in which the government barred Anthropic from providing foreign nationals access to Mythos 5 and a related model, Fable 5. Anthropic disabled global access during negotiations and said the cleared group would include cyber defenders and infrastructure providers. The Commerce letter does not describe any change to Fable 5 restrictions, signaling that the policy environment for frontier AI deployment remains layered and partner-specific.
