A survey across California State University found both widespread AI adoption and continuing skepticism about how it should be used. The system’s campus community—students, faculty, and staff—reported that ChatGPT is the preferred AI tool among those surveyed, according to reporting on a survey of 94,000 people across CSUs. Even with high usage, the results show doubts persist around ethics and accuracy, suggesting students and employees are integrating AI into routine work while questioning governance and academic integrity guardrails. The findings add operational pressure on CSU campuses to align training, policy, and assessment practices with the level of AI embedded in daily academic workflows.
