Cornell University President Michael Kotlikoff described a low-speed vehicle incident in which he struck a student and a recent graduate as harassment and intimidation following an Israel–Palestine debate on campus. After introductory remarks at the event, protesters allegedly followed Kotlikoff to his car and asked questions about speech and disciplinary policies. Video reviewed by The Cornell Sun shows Kotlikoff backing into individuals behind the car. Kotlikoff asserted protesters were banging on the vehicle, though the videos described by the student newspaper do not show that action. In an email to the campus community, he alleged some individuals were known for prior disruptive conduct and online or verbal abuse toward administration and staff. The conflict adds to a broader spring of heightened campus confrontation risks tied to controversial political speech, and it puts university leaders under immediate pressure over incident response, safety protocols, and communications framing.
