North Carolina State University used a commencement surprise to directly address student debt: the Wilson College of Textiles commencement speaker, Anil Kochhar, pledged to pay off the final-year education loans for graduates who borrowed during the 2025–2026 academic year. The university coordinated through its Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid to execute the plan after Kochhar raised the idea with Dean David Hinks.
