Spelman College named Ayanna Howard as its next president, with her start date set for Aug. 1. Howard, a roboticist and higher-education leader currently dean of Ohio State’s College of Engineering, brings experience from NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory and Georgia Tech, along with entrepreneurial work in education and therapeutic technologies. Wilkes University also selected James Cousins as its eighth president, beginning Aug. 1. Cousins currently leads Kentucky Wesleyan College and previously served as provost and vice president of academic affairs, including roles at Western Michigan University. Elmira College named John F. Dolan to lead starting July 30 after enrollment and endowment growth at St. Mary’s Lynn, plus prior senior roles at Simmons University. For stakeholders, the significance is less about a single campus and more about momentum: multiple institutions are appointing presidents with strong technology, enrollment, and operational experience as they navigate financial pressure and changing student demand.
