The Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) announced its 2026–2027 Board of Directors, including eight newly elected members and new board officers. CHEA said the board’s mission is to guide work on academic quality, institutional excellence, and public confidence in accreditation. The newly elected members include senior academic leaders from the University of the Virgin Islands, Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education, Baruch College (CUNY), University of South Carolina Upstate, Saint Louis University, and Lone Star College-Online, among others. CHEA also named Kathy Johnson as provost at Saint Louis University effective July 13 and listed several additional institutional leaders and accreditation-related specialists. CHEA’s officers for the 2026–2027 term include chair Catherine Wehlburg (Athens State University) and vice chair David Schmidt (Webster University). The organization said the new leadership starts terms on July 1, 2026, with Catherine Wehlburg succeeding F. Javier Cevallos as immediate past chair after his 2025–2026 service.
