The Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) granted initial recognition to Mexico City–based CIEES (Comités Interinstitucionales para la Evaluación de la Educación Superior), marking the first time a Latin American accreditor has received CHEA endorsement. CHEA’s announcement noted CIEES accredits more than 200 institutions and thousands of programs across associate through doctoral levels. CHEA President Nasser H. Paydar and Board Chair F. Javier Cevallos highlighted CIEES’s emphasis on student and program outcomes and transparency. For U.S. institutions and international partnerships, the recognition expands cross‑border quality assurance options and could influence credit transfer, joint degrees, and institutional collaborations in the Americas.
