CHEA announced it is establishing a Council of Experts on Quality Assurance and Accreditation to strengthen engagement with scholars and practitioners and to address emerging higher education quality issues. The new advisory network will support CHEA’s convenings, publications, and strategic initiatives. CHEA said the council will focus on student outcomes and measures of value, assessment and institutional effectiveness, innovation in teaching and learning, and the growing role of AI in teaching and learning. CHEA’s president, Paydar, said the council aims to provide clear, informed perspectives on academic quality during a period of rapid change. The council is chaired by Dr. Stephen P. Hundley of Indiana University Indianapolis and includes members from across higher education with expertise in quality assurance, assessment, and competency-based education. CHEA characterized the council as intended to complement its existing governance structure while expanding connections among institutions, accreditors, policymakers, and experts. The announcement signals that accreditation and quality assurance work is positioning AI as a core area for guidance, assessment, and evidence-based institutional improvement.
