ETS announced it will acquire ACT, bringing together the GRE and TOEFL test operator with the college- and career-readiness assessment provider. The deal, which could reshape assessment offerings for K–12 and state systems, matters because both organizations already have deep footprints in education. ETS CEO Amit Sevak said the near term will be “business as usual,” including no immediate changes for current ACT test-takers. Over time, ETS said it plans to sit down with ACT leadership to define a new product roadmap focused on long-term readiness needs. ETS described AI-driven capabilities already in its technology stack—supporting test-item generation, adaptive assessments, and remote proctoring—as potential building blocks for ACT as well. ACT CEO Steve Tapp said the acquisition will let ACT scale its work “within a broader vision for readiness.”
