Syracuse University announced it will eliminate 93 academic programs identified as having low or no enrollment, cutting offerings across bachelor’s degrees, certificates, and graduate programs. The university said the decision is not driven by finances; provost and chief academic officer Lois Agnew described the changes as a focus on distinctiveness and alignment with student demand. Agnew said all currently enrolled students will be able to complete their degrees and that faculty reviewed programs based on quality and demand. Still, the university’s elimination list includes multiple fields with no enrolled students, including languages and select graduate and undergraduate offerings.
