Walla Walla Community College’s board voted to close its satellite campus in Clarkston, Washington, citing a $4.3 million budget gap. The decision sets up a two-year teach-out period through June 2028 so current students can complete programs, while the college pursues alternative funding models to preserve some local presence. WWCC leadership said closing the Clarkston campus would save $3.2 million annually, while keeping it open would require an estimated $23,500 increase in operating costs. The Clarkston site currently enrolls about 82 nursing students, with roughly $2 million spent on salaries for the program. The board’s actions could also include potential layoffs of 43 faculty and staff, with personnel costs described as about 80% of the operating budget. Community pushback was recorded in earlier meetings, and leaders said they are exploring cost-share talks with healthcare executives to sustain nursing and healthcare offerings.
