Cornell University received a $371.5 million pledge from alumnus David Duffield, the largest single gift in the university’s history, the school announced. The donation creates a $250 million Duffield Legacy Fund, a $50 million educational excellence fund and a Duffield Launch Fund to support immediate priorities including facilities, faculty and research. Cornell will name its engineering college the David A. Duffield College of Engineering. Dean Lynden Archer said the endowment and launch funds will let the college pursue strategic opportunities in quantum engineering, AI, health and data science and update research infrastructure. Duffield, cofounder of PeopleSoft and Workday, has now pledged more than $550 million to Cornell in under two years. University officials said the unrestricted legacy and launch funds provide flexibility to invest in research and teaching initiatives aligned with the college’s priorities.
