CHEA announced its 2026–2027 Board of Directors, electing eight new members and naming new board officers for the July 1, 2026 start of the terms. The Council said the board brings experienced leaders across colleges and universities to guide CHEA’s work on academic quality, institutional excellence, and public confidence in accreditation. Among the newly elected members are provosts and presidents from multiple institutions, including University of the Virgin Islands, Oklahoma State Regents, Baruch College (CUNY), University of South Carolina Upstate, Saint Louis University, University of San Diego, Lone Star College-Online, and California State University San Marcos. CHEA also named board chair Catherine Wehlburg of Athens State University and vice chair David Schmidt of Webster University, with Lori Williams serving as secretary and Colette Pierce Burnette continuing as treasurer. The slate signals ongoing board renewal as accreditation ecosystems adjust to changing quality assurance demands and institutional accountability pressures.
