Authorities in several states have moved to criminalize certain uses of generative AI that create explicit images of minors; Louisiana’s prosecution is reported to be among the first under new state statutes. Experts warn that advances in generative tools have reduced technical barriers, enabling students with little training to produce realistic deepfakes that can be shared instantly on ephemeral platforms like Snapchat. For higher education, the problem intersects with student conduct, K–12 partnerships, educator training and campus counseling resources: universities that run teacher-preparation programs, counseling clinics, or K–12 partnerships must revise policies on digital harm, reporting protocols, and legal cooperation with law enforcement. Schools should also update incident response playbooks to handle rapid-spread digital evidence and to protect victims’ privacy.
