The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission opened an antisemitism probe into the National Education Association, according to the Louis D. Brandeis Center, which filed the underlying complaint. The Brandeis Center said the EEOC opened the investigation in the Washington, D.C., field office after its Coalition to Combat Anti-Semitism submission alleged NEA created a hostile environment for Jewish members. EEOC confirmed that it could neither confirm nor deny the existence of any charge or charge inquiry, citing confidentiality requirements, but the Brandeis Center said investigators collected documents and witness information supporting the complaint. The allegations include claims about NEA materials for Holocaust education, the framing of an Israel map as part of “indigenous lands” teaching resources, and delegate harassment at NEA’s 2025 Representative Assembly. NEA did not respond to a comment request. The matter puts a major teachers union under federal scrutiny as higher education institutions continue to manage campus climate, labor disputes, and compliance obligations tied to nondiscrimination law.
