The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission moved toward ending employee demographic data reporting by proposing to eliminate EEO-1 and related reporting requirements, according to a proposal sent to the White House. The proposal would remove multiple EEO-1 components and additional reporting tied to Title VII, the ADA, and other civil-rights and workplace protections. EEO-1 reporting has long been a core compliance requirement for large employers and federal contractors, and it has supported national demographic assessments used by regulators and employers for self-audits. While the process is often criticized as burdensome, the reporting is also positioned as a mechanism for measuring discrimination risk and monitoring workforce equity. The change arrives as the Trump administration has continued targeting diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives in workplace policy, extending earlier attempts to block EEO-1 pay-data requirements. If approved, the proposal would proceed through federal rulemaking after publication in the Federal Register.
