Emory University has selected Sabyasachi “Saby” Mitra as the next John H. Harland Dean of the Goizueta Business School, starting Aug. 1. Mitra, currently dean of the University of Florida’s Warrington College of Business, takes over as Emory closes a search led by Provost Badia Ahad. Mitra replaces Gareth James, who will become dean of UCLA’s Anderson School of Management this summer. Under James, Goizueta launched three new degree programs and two centers, added 22 full-time faculty members, and grew enrollment by 35%—even as the MBA program’s rankings shifted, according to the report’s cited comparisons. Emory framed Mitra’s hire around growth and innovation, noting his prior repositioning of Warrington as an AI and analytics education hub, expansion of online graduate offerings, and opening of new locations in Miami and Jacksonville. Mitra’s background includes a Ph.D. from the University of Iowa and prior leadership roles at Georgia Tech’s Scheller College of Business.
