Ventura College is scaling faculty AI readiness by forming communities of practice (CoPs) centered on practical AI use. The initiative is positioned as a structured way to accelerate tool adoption without forcing educators to learn independently, with CoPs bringing together instructors sharing common interest in AI. The effort reflects a broader institutional challenge in higher education: turning experimentation into consistent teaching and workflow capacity. CoPs can standardize training, improve peer support, and reduce uncertainty around appropriate use. If implemented effectively, the model could help institutions move from isolated AI pilots toward faculty-wide competency aligned with course design, compliance expectations, and classroom support.
