A University of California academic senate advisory body abruptly suspended its planned review of standardized testing in undergraduate admissions. The system’s Board of Admissions and Relations with Schools (BOARS) voted to withdraw a timeline for a comprehensive SAT/ACT review that would have delivered recommendations by mid-2027. BOARS chair Ahmet Palazoglu said the group is revising its timeline for a “thorough, evidence-based” review of admissions practices, as faculty, students, and other stakeholders have debated whether standardized testing should return in some form. The move highlights how quickly admissions governance can turn in the UC system, especially since UC eliminated standardized testing requirements across its 12 campuses in 2020. UC Board Chair Maria Anguiano said the standardized-testing review would remain a major focus of board and senate work over the coming year.
