The U.S. Department of Education opened two new investigations into Harvard University, targeting alleged antisemitic harassment and the university’s admissions practices after the Supreme Court’s affirmative action ban. The Office for Civil Rights investigation will assess whether Harvard tolerated harassment of Jewish students. Separately, the federal inquiry will examine whether Harvard continues to use race-based preferences in admissions despite the 2023 ruling in Students for Fair Admissions v. Harvard. Harvard said it is committed to addressing antisemitism and denied wrongdoing related to admissions, while the department warned it may refer the matter to the U.S. Department of Justice if Harvard does not provide requested information quickly.
