The Office of Federal Student Aid is scheduled to begin vacating its space in the Department of Education’s Lyndon B. Johnson Building and transferring to a Department of the Treasury facility on K Street. An internal email reviewed by Inside Higher Ed says FSA staff will transfer to the Treasury building starting Aug. 17, while many will work remotely until then. The move reflects broader administration goals to scale down federal education bureaucracy and comes after an interagency agreement transferred oversight of defaulted student loans to Treasury. Officials told Inside Higher Ed the relocation should not disrupt service during the busiest part of the aid calendar. The operational shift is likely to affect coordination with campus financial aid advisers and federal partners as colleges prepare for the start of the new academic year, with timing still evolving for other ED offices moving out of LBJ.
