The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) moved to eliminate employee demographic reporting requirements tied to EEO-1 (and related forms), according to a proposal sent to the White House. The agency also sought to remove additional reporting tied to Title VII, ADA, GINA, and the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act. EEO-1 reporting has long required covered employers and federal contractors to submit demographic data used for national assessments of workplace discrimination and diversity. The process has been criticized as burdensome, but it has also been cited by stakeholders as supporting internal self-assessments. After White House approval, the proposal would progress through the Federal Register and a public-comment period before a final rule. The EEOC move is being viewed in the context of broader federal actions that target diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives in the workplace.
