The Financial Times has launched a formal review of its FT50 journal list—the backbone of the research metric in its MBA and EMBA rankings—asking business schools worldwide whether the list should be broadened, updated regularly, or supplemented with citation and societal-impact measures. The FT50 has been a focal point for faculty publishing incentives and dean-level strategy since its last major revision in 2016. Any change to the FT50 or the research metric could reshape promotion and tenure incentives, reward interdisciplinary or applied work, and alter schools’ strategic faculty hires.
