Zurich-based Gravis Robotics raised $23 million to scale AI retrofits that convert excavators and loaders into semi-autonomous machines. Led by IQ Capital and Zacua Ventures, the round will fund expansion across the U.K., U.S. and EU and deepen partnerships with construction firms and materials suppliers. Gravis says its Slate tablet and sensor stacks reduce risky tasks and lower barriers for younger operators, addressing an aging operator base and skills shortage in construction. The firm already operates in seven countries and cites demand tied to renewable infrastructure, data centers and housing. Engineering schools, construction-management programs and campus facilities offices may find new collaboration opportunities: autonomous heavy equipment work intersects robotics curricula, workforce retraining, and public‑private R&D partnerships.
