A new report highlights a “stability paradox” confronting higher education IT leaders: campuses want to move quickly on AI and digital transformation, but core systems tied to identity, registration, and learning platforms cannot afford outages. ListEdTech reported that at 55 universities, the leading IT investment priorities include data and storage, identity and access management, and learning platforms—areas directly linked to both AI integration and compliance requirements. The core challenge for institutions is governance and architecture—how to pilot AI without compromising systems that students and faculty depend on daily. The message is timely as universities accelerate AI deployments while also facing increasing scrutiny on cybersecurity, data privacy, and reliable access for enrollment and academic continuity.
