An open education awards program is adding a formal request for “Generative AI Transparency” in its nominations process, aiming to make disclosures easier for reviewers and nominators. The Open Education Awards for Excellence added an optional field asking nominators to indicate how generative AI was used in preparing nomination materials. Organizers said the review process would not be affected by the disclosure itself, but they are using the data to learn how often and in what ways tools like ChatGPT are being incorporated—especially for language support, within word-limit edits, and response refinement. The new disclosure field reflects an operational approach to AI accountability in academic-adjacent recognition systems, while acknowledging that detection of synthetic text remains unreliable.
