The Higher Learning Commission announced formal endorsements for four third‑party providers of short-term credentials — Corporate Finance Institute, Kaplan North America, Sophia Learning and Voltage Control — marking the first time the accreditor vetted nondegree credential partners. HLC President Barbara Gellman-Danley framed the move as a way for colleges to find vetted partners in a crowded micropathway market that now lists over a million offerings. The endorsement responds to institutional caution about quality and to Lumina Foundation research showing many short-term credentials deliver limited wage gains. The HLC said endorsed providers meet standards for content, assessment and employer relevance, enabling institutions to more confidently integrate third‑party microcredentials into existing curricula.
