The Association of Governing Boards (AGB) announced a national governance framework aimed at strengthening trustee selection, training, and role clarity through its Higher Education Governance Integrity Initiative. AGB said governance problems are becoming more widespread as boards face heightened politicization and as many trustees report uncertainty around fiduciary duties and governance boundaries. AGB is positioning the framework as structural rather than partisan, linking clearer board roles to stability in presidents and improved public trust. The five-part set includes strengthened trustee selection, modernized training, and revised guidance on board oversight and accountability.
