Michael Dell and Susan Dell announced a $750 million gift to the University of Texas at Austin to create a new medical center and research campus built around AI from the ground up. The donation, described as one of the largest given to a public university in the U.S., brings the Dells’ total commitments to UT Austin past $1 billion. UT Austin’s new Dell Medical Center is planned to open in 2030 and is designed to connect prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and discovery through AI and advanced computing. The gift will also support undergraduate scholarships, student housing, and UT’s Texas Advanced Computing Center, which is building an AI-focused supercomputing capability. The announcement reinforces how philanthropy is increasingly underwriting AI research infrastructure inside public universities—not only in computer science, but across health systems and clinical research pipelines.
