The New Mexico Highlands University Board of Regents moved to dismiss President Neil Woolf about a month after he and other top leaders were placed on paid administrative leave. The board said it removed Woolf “without cause,” while also pointing to privacy limits on disclosing personnel details under New Mexico law. Woolf’s ouster follows a lawsuit he filed last week alleging he was being sidelined after refusing an order to cancel an existing campus construction contract and divert it to a friend of board chair Frank Sanchez. Before the Tuesday vote, Woolf addressed the regents, according to local reporting. Regents said they will comply with Woolf’s contract terms, including separation pay, final compensation, and accrued benefits. The board asked the community for patience as the university moves forward amid ongoing governance uncertainty.
