Marty Guay, chair of the Connecticut State Colleges and Universities Board of Regents, resigned effective immediately, following months of personnel turmoil in the system. The resignation comes weeks after interim chancellor John Maduko stepped down amid allegations of sexual harassment, including inappropriate texts and sexual comments to a female employee. Guay’s resignation follows scrutiny raised by the same unnamed employee, including claims that Guay told her a prior employee who accused him of sexual harassment was fired. Guay said he submitted his resignation after reflection and noted that the system has hired an outside firm to investigate whether ongoing harm can be remediated. The board said the external investigation is intended to determine whether harm exists and what actions the institution must take. Guay also indicated he will begin a yearlong fellowship with Harvard University’s Advanced Leadership Initiative in August, shifting leadership at a time when the system is already managing governance and credibility concerns.
