Utah’s measles outbreak has slowed but is still transmitting as the state prepares for school sessions and colder fall weather that could trigger another surge. State epidemiologist Leisha Nolen warned that even if cases are decreasing, the virus remains active and could flare quickly if it reaches undervaccinated communities. The state reported more than 680 cases since the first outbreak began June 20, 2025, with infections spanning nearly every county. A February exposure linked to a Utah state high school wrestling championship drove dozens of cases among attendees. Utah’s data show uneven vaccine coverage, with more than 16% of kindergarteners missing measles vaccination in a key northeastern “tricounty” region, versus 12.8% statewide—far below the 95% coverage level needed to prevent outbreaks.
