Michigan State University announced a $50 million commitment from the Leinweber Foundation to fund the Leinweber Center for Engineering and Digital Innovation, the largest gift ever earmarked for a facility at MSU. The planned 265,000‑square‑foot center, backed in partnership with the state, will house interdisciplinary labs focused on data science, AI, cybersecurity, semiconductors and esports, expand enrollment capacity for engineering students and support more than 75 principal investigators. MSU President Kevin Guskiewicz called the commitment an investment in Michigan’s future. Construction began this year with completion expected by December 2028. The gift underscores how targeted philanthropy and state partnerships are driving capital projects that align campus programs with regional workforce and industry priorities.
