Drexel University received a $112.6 million gift to expand its engineering and computing facilities and student support. The funding comes from the Howley Foundation, led by alumnus and trustee Nick Howley, his wife Lorie, and their daughter Meg. Drexel will create the Nick Howley College of Engineering and Computing, with $36 million designated for 55,000 square feet of classrooms, laboratories, and collaborative learning spaces under the Howley Family Immersive Learning Center. Planned lab and learning features include robotics, a flight simulator, a jet engine lab, soil and concrete analysis, and spaces for chemical engineering, materials science, and cell and gene therapy education. The remaining $76 million supports the Howley College Scholars program, designed to enhance scholarships and recruitment for students with limited means, focusing on Philadelphia and Cleveland. Drexel said the investment will improve both capacity and access through expanded scholarships.
