The Computer Science Teachers Association launched an $11 million, multistate initiative to train K-12 educators to teach foundational AI and computer science, starting this summer. The program, “AI PD Weeks,” will deliver weeklong, hands-on sessions in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Minnesota, New Jersey, and South Carolina, with additional states planned for year two. Backed by the National Science Foundation under President Donald Trump’s executive order on “Advancing Artificial Intelligence Education for American Youth,” the effort targets a gap where many teachers still lack confidence to integrate generative AI into instruction and workflows. Officials and researchers framed the training as moving beyond coding access to building durable concepts that help students operate in an AI-powered environment.
