Clemson University’s board of trustees announced Kevin Guskiewicz as the institution’s 16th president, ending a multi-month search and setting a transition for the university’s next leadership period. Guskiewicz, currently president of Michigan State University, will replace Jim Clements, who stepped down at the end of 2025 after more than a decade in the role. The appointment comes as trustees and state stakeholders increasingly scrutinize research direction, enrollment strategy, and fiscal planning—making leadership continuity and transition management a near-term priority for Clemson’s operating units and campus governance partners.
