Portland Community College faculty union reached a tentative deal with the college after a 20-day strike, ending work stoppages ahead of spring semester classes. The settlement follows a separate agreement with striking classified employees earlier last week. Under the tentative terms, full-time faculty will receive a one-time $5,475 lump sum to cover lost wages, with additional payments for full-time academic professionals and part-time academic professionals. The agreement also includes a 2% pay raise for faculty in the first year of the contract and 3% in the second year. College President Adrien Bennings said the institution would move back to core teaching and service, while the president cautioned the deal is “so far outside of our budget” it will likely force additional future cuts—highlighting the tight margin many public systems face when labor costs spike.
